The Office Is On Strike

It’s a Dunder-Mifflin lockout! Many of the actors on The Office are also writers – so you get to see Ryan, Kelly and Toby walking the picket lines. This video does a good job of explaining some of the issues….

Thanks for explaining this. I’m not in the industry at all, so I had no idea what the issues were, and they’ve done it VERY well.

I guess one of the things that just makes it worse is that the networks are planning on doing more reality TV show with non union writers. I understand the inequity now with the whole web thing. They really should be compensated, especially given how much money the titans of the network as well as the internet make. Google, Yahoo, You Tube, Blogger –they’re all gazillionaires.

I don’t think the press is doing a great job of explaining it either, but then…who owns the press?

The writers were originally asking for slightly higher DVD royalties but they dropped that request because the big issue for them is the internet / download stuff – they realize that in a few years that could be EVERYTHING. And of course the studios realize that, too.
