Stories like this seem to indicate that Tucker Carlson is in real trouble at MSNBC…
Rumors have been flying recently that Tucker Carlson could soon be on the way out at MSNBC. In a report that aired this morning on NPR, Phil Griffin, a senior vice president at the cable network, described Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as part of the MSNBC “brand”. Asked whether Mr. Carlson was also part of that brand, Mr. Griffin replied: “He is right now.”

I think part of Tucker’s problem is that he doesn’t have a base right now. He’s been a GOP apologist for a long time but that’s not a gig with a future and he really does a half hearted job of it. He’s not evangelical so he can’t really make those type of conservative arguements with much passion.
But there is a base he could fit right in with – the Ron Paul people. They are very enthusiastic and as far as I can tell, they don’t have a media voice. And Tucker has said he’s in the libertarian camp and actually supported Paul when he ran as a libertarian.
So – embrace that, Tucker and don’t be half hearted. Risk unpopularity the same way Ron does and find real, hardcore popularity. Become the go-to voice of the Paulists on these issues. Stop defending the GOP and start defending the libertarian conception of liberty in the same language that they use. It’s true to yourself and likely to spike rating in the same way that Keith Olbermann’s rating shot up when he found his true voice.
The media popularity game is all about staking out an internally consistent position that resonates with an audience. Tucker would have to rethink a few of his past statements, but he’s actually probably a lot more libertarian than he lets on in his current ‘conservative’ persona. He hints at it often, but he’s still chained to GOP talking points on many issues.
Nothing to lose, either, is there? He already has the platform and it seems like there are lots of people who aren’t hearing their point of view expressed on the air consistently anywhere.
Make it so, Tucker.

Tucker you have nothing to lose stand up and be counted.
It’s to late to save your job but not to late to stand up for what you believe.
Tucker’s only been truly likeable when he is pushing positively
for the truth, and self-hamstrung when he’s busy doing the jeering
work of others (notably, the GOP). There’s something there in
Tucker, and whether it’s Ron Paul advocacy or something else, it would be a relief seeing him be true to his inner voice.
I think his best move is to advocate what he really believes, and it seems to me to be libertarianism of the same type advocated by Ron Paul, more or less.
I agree – his GOP jeering isn’t pretty.
I watch the Washington Journal every single morning on cspan, 5 am each and everyday MST. I must admit, there are indeed more calls with support for Ron Paul than any other candidate.
The cspan audience is large and informed, usually way ahead of the curve and it’s Ron Paul these sentinals are focasing on.
It’s all about ratings Tucker, ratings and advertising dollars…and there are hugh amounts to be gained providing a voice for the supporters of Ron Paul, we are many voices.
Myself, 52 disabled female CEO, I cracked up when I read I was labeled a terrorist by Glen Beck. Maybe Beck fell off the wagon.
Tuck..
Please get some gonads and stand up for Ron Paul. You act like its a darn shame he is running or something, yet you two share some core beliefs.
Or go back to the bow tie.
Please.
I don’t think Tucker is ever going to join the good guys. I think he is vying for a position in the neo-con media disinformation army.
I mean, supposedly he supports Ron Paul, but have you heard the things he says? Doesn’t sound to me like very genuine support.
Frankly, I don’t trust him and wouldn’t want him to represent the revolution in the media. How about someone like Jack Cafferty? Now there’s a real reporter.
Maybe the problem with Tucker is that with Keith Olberman around he just looks like what he is: A smirking, self-important white guy who only cares about his next gig (and how much money it pays). One David Brooks in this world is quite enough, thanks.
Now that he’s decided to start writing about rock music, maybe one David Brooks is too many, actually..
C’mon Tucker, do what’s right! It’ll make you a rock star! Paulists are aching for a mainstream media venue and you could be the man!

He actually voted for Ron Paul in 1988? Maybe he does have a brain and just needs to remember where he put his uh testicles, glue em back on and stand up for what’s right.
I’m so sick of media for money, corporate greed et al…how about somebody coming out in favor of people, the constitution, freedom and fiscal sanity for a change. All the talking heads do is pose and push the left vs right crap, almost as bad as the candidates themselves…HELLO it ain’t about you guys!!!
Ron Paul has a diverse following, because he unites people, get a clue. When you marginilize him and his message you’re talking down to a lot of people. I know some of us Ron Paul supporters are just plain ordinary folk, not nearly as smart as the media broadcasters but guess what? We know honesty when we see and hear it…do you?
Tucker we need a good field hand to get interviews from the field and onto the net bro! Help Ron and the rest of us get Ron in office and I am sure that the sky will be the limit for you. We could attach all your field reports to every damn thing we can blog in the BLOGOSPHERE!!!!!
I normally do not take the time to leave comments, but it is hard to find real info on this subject today. You did a great job in this post and I am going to take the time to read the rest of your posts. Keep up the good work!
